Citiizen aims to offer a new vision of modern roleplay: a connected, living world designed first and foremost for players.
Citiizen – Devlog #3
Where should I begin? Oh yes, hello to you, dear readers who will be reading this new devlog. More than 2 months have passed since the last one and... things have changed (for the better, of course).
As you can see, the writing style of the devlogs has evolved. I’ve decided to talk to you as if we were chatting face to face over a little coffee.
Our beginnings in RP
When we started creating our first RP game with Islide (Nova-Life: currently available for free on Steam), we both had the same vision of RP: to create a unique world and bring a community of players to life within it.
For those who remember, Nova-Life was originally designed to have only one single server. I remember we reached more than 150 players online at the same time. It was magical for us... and total chaos!
We were facing huge issues that we were discovering at the same time as the players, things we hadn’t anticipated due to our lack of experience, but the game was there and it held together despite everything — and still does today.
We quickly went back on our decision, reluctantly of course, to have only one server. The immediate solution was to allow players to create their own servers, which took a huge weight off our shoulders, but also scattered players across many different servers. This decision was made for many reasons, but the most relevant ones were technical.
How the game’s vision has evolved
After more than 12 years — yes, I started developing Nova-Life in 2014 — we have decided to take on this challenge once again. One single world* for all players.
* Players will be spread across different islands but will live through the same story. You won’t find 1,200 players all in the exact same place.
This will be the major difference between Citiizen and Nova-Life. One will be a massively multiplayer roleplay video game, while the other remains what it currently is: an RP video game where players create their own servers and define their own rules.
Don’t get us wrong, you will be able to create your own world in Citiizen. We have planned a mode that will allow you to create your own island. No further information about this mode will be revealed for now.
What does all of this mean in concrete terms?
Citiizen wants to tell its own story and let you experience something unique, where you are placed at the heart of the action. We do not want Citiizen to be a game engine or a sandbox game with no clear purpose — no.
Citiizen is not aimed at developers. It is aimed at players, and at everyone who wants to experience something unique with a different vision of modern roleplay as we all know it.
The first game tests
The first tests are fast approaching. The first testing phase will focus on land vehicles and very basic job mechanics.
Everything will come in due time. First, we need to validate and fix all the bugs in a foundational system — vehicles — before moving on to something else and offering you even more.
It is still possible to support the game, even outside of streams, by clicking here.
